As we venture further into 2024, it's a time rich with new beginnings and the pursuit of resolutions deeply rooted in our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. In today's discussion, inspired by Dr. Don Whitney of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, we delve into a profound question that challenges our perceptions and expectations in our spiritual walk: What's the most humanly impossible thing you will ask God to do this year?

This question isn't just a mere contemplation; it's a catalyst that propels us beyond the constraints of human capability, urging us to embrace the boundless promises and power of God. It's a call to elevate our vision, aligning our aspirations with the grandeur of God's kingdom.

The Power of Impossible Prayers

In our recent elders' meeting at Cornerstone, this question surfaced striking responses - from the salvation of unbelievers in our lives to a revival that spans nations, echoing the glory of Christ. These responses are not mere wishes; they are bold, courageous prayers rooted in faith, seeking what only God can accomplish.

Loving Our God-Chosen Neighbors

A crucial aspect of this year's spiritual journey is the call to love our neighbors - a directive that aligns with the greatest commandment. But how well do we know our neighbors? Do we even like them? The challenge here is not just to know them but to love them, recognizing that they, too, are made in God's image and have been placed in our lives by divine design.

Five Steps to Embrace Neighborly Love

  1. Meet Your Neighbors: This is the first step towards loving them. Introduce yourself, even if it means asking for their name again. Establishing a personal connection is vital.
  2. Renew Your Mind Regarding Your Neighbors: Overcome anxiety and preconceptions by focusing on them as image-bearers of God, deserving of love and connection.
  3. Make Notes About Your Neighbors: It may seem trivial, but remembering names and details about them is an essential step in showing genuine care and interest.
  4. Plan a Follow-Up with Your Neighbors: Keep building the relationship. Simple acts of kindness or spontaneous interactions can deepen these connections.
  5. Pray for and Serve Your Neighbors: Include them in your prayers, and look for opportunities to serve them, reflecting Christ's love through your actions.

The Purpose Behind the Actions

These steps, though simple, are profound in their purpose. Each act of neighborly love is an opportunity to share the love of Christ. It's about growing in sanctification, stepping out of our comfort zones, and being instruments of God's grace in our communities.

Your Part in This Divine Mission

So, what step will you take this week to build a closer relationship with your neighbors? Share your stories and commitments with us at lifeatthecorner@cstonepres.org. Whether it's learning the name of the person next door or engaging in a meaningful conversation, every small step is significant.

As we seek to fulfill the Great Commission and follow the Great Commandment, let us start in our neighborhoods. May God accomplish through us what seems humanly impossible, using our efforts for His divine purposes.
